After studying the idea of peer feedback in language learning logs in the context of teaching EFL writing, I was curious to see if it applied to news writing style. I felt compelled to learn more about this topic because I was unfamiliar with it, especially in light of its connection to my coursework in news, features, and editorial classes. Through my study, I learned that peer criticism for news writing style usually consists of scoring elements on a rubric that ranges from great to inadequate. These elements include the headline, lead, tone and voice, language characteristics and terminology, quotes, and attribution. This new information has broadened my perspective and made it clear how important it is to follow certain guidelines when gathering and reporting news.
English as a foreign language (EFL) is essential forworldwide involvement and successful communicationin the field of writing instruction. The goal of EFL training is to help non-native speakers communicateeffectively in academic, professional, and culturalcontexts around the globe by fostering the developmentof their grammar, vocabulary, and stylistic skills. Beyondlanguage skills, EFL writing instruction fosters creativityand critical thinking, enabling students to producewriting that is both persuasive and appropriate for theirculture. In the end, developing one's EFL writing skillsgives people the tools they need to live in a connectedsociety, allowing them to comprehend different points ofview more deeply and be able to make significantcontributions to the global conversation.
